When we first visited the site, our entire team was awestruck by the views in every direction. This is a one-of-a-kind property even in this unique development, so we thought long and hard about how to best capture the experience of standing on that ridge and feeling what seemed like the entire world unfolding below and around us. The idea of a PERCH felt imperative: create an elevated living space that suspends you in air, allowing you to take everything in.
Process Studio
While pursuing this concept, we also wrestled with how to create shelter and comfort in a place that is very exposed. Inspired by natural boulders on the site, we envisioned a series of large, massive forms that might anchor the PERCH and create this protection. These boulder-like forms house private functions, while supporting a long and transparent central bar of communal activity that includes kitchen, dining, living, and lounging. Within this bar is our PERCH - a place to celebrate the beauty of the Wasatch, the surrounding valleys, and aspects of this site that cannot be matched anywhere else.

Who We Are
Founded in 2012 and firmly rooted in Utah, Process Studio is a boutique architectural design firm that specializes in custom residential design of all types and scales. The name “process” was an intentional moniker, and also our mission with project clients—engage them immersively into the design process to realize their needs and goals in elevated built form. All of the architecture is in-house; we wrangle a full team of preferred consultants for everything else.
OUR PROCESS
We start every project with a lot of listening—to the client, the immediate site, and the greater context. Design is a study and conversation with all three. With initial parameters established, Process Studio utilizes all of its collective design tools from hand-sketching to 3D modeling and virtual reality walk-throughs to create, iterate, present, and test design ideas in collaboration with its clients. The project design evolves and is refined together with lots of care and technical expertise.
Our Team
Firm partners Eric Egenolf and Dwight Yee, both licensed architects, met as undergraduate classmates in architecture school in the late 90s. Dwight’s first recollection of Eric is receiving unsolicited feedback on a dodgy design-build scaffold project his studio team had constructed out on the quad; naturally they started a firm together some 15 years later. Mike Bartholomew joined full-time in 2021; he is a skilled designer, visualization wizard, and unofficial office DJ.
