Perched atop a dramatic ridge, this modern contemporary residence is conceived for an active family immersed in the golf and ski culture of the Wasatch Mountains. On approach, the form grows organically from the hillside, appearing intimate before revealing its full presence.

The design is a dialogue between a solid lower-level plinth emerging from the earth and an upper volume organized as a continuous ribbon that winds in and out of the plinth. This interplay creates protected garden rooms while capturing southern light, panoramic views, and a sense of floating lightness.

The upper level offers a striking contrast of experiences. Its form wraps around a central garden courtyard that flows seamlessly through the house into the auto-court entry sequence. Along the courtyard side, the volume remains firmly grounded, fostering quiet, contemplative intimacy with the central garden and views toward Mount Timpanogos. On the opposite sides, it floats above the valley toward the Jordanelle Reservoir and Bald Mountain, celebrating the open expanse of the landscape. Around the courtyard, the architecture softens into a dramatic curved wall and roof, setting the disciplined rectilinear perimeter against soft, sculptural carve-outs.

The great room opens directly onto the courtyard, connecting to nature and southern light. Two chimneys anchor the space and frame views, separating a covered outdoor dining area that cantilevers toward Bald Mountain. Circulation continues along a curved glass wall into the office and primary wing; as the roof slopes, volumes diminish, giving the primary bedroom the most intimate scale.

A grand interior staircase descends along the garden into a subterranean recreation room that daylights onto an edgeless pool, terrace, fire pit, hot tub, and outdoor dining. The space includes a lounge, bar, billiards, golf simulator, and wine vault. The plinth also houses a wellness suite with gym, halo/oxygen therapy, massage and steam rooms, cold plunge, lounge, and sauna. A second stair reaches the private ground-level bedroom wing with four guest suites and a library.

Materials remain simple and refined: board-formed concrete for the plinth and chimneys, its surface retaining the warmth of wood grain; a patinated copper skin in quiet earth tones that shifts with light, deepened by vertical seams; and lighter wood where volumes are carved, continuing unbroken indoors as a muted backdrop for tile and stone.

Together the ribbon-like upper volume and grounded plinth create a home both rooted and liberated—intimate with its garden courts yet expansive toward the mountain landscape.
